The rose-coloured granite sarcophagus belonging to Bakenkhonsu, First High Priest of Amun during the reign of Ramesses II. It is decorated with representations of funerary deities and bands of text.

From the private collection of Joseph Mayer, given to the museum in 1867. For more information see Record 1 M13519 Liverpool Museum, Object History.

The sarcophagus was found in Bakenkhonsu's tomb (TT 35) at Dra 'Abu el Naga on the West Bank at Thebes and was formerly in the collection of Viscount Valentia. Joseph Mayer bought the sarcophagus along with most of the Valentia collection at Sotheby's in 1852.
